Transitions

I think it is so common for us to get excited about taking pictures of our families when our children are young and changing so quickly. Then something happens. They get older and aren't home much, and lets be honest, parents are tired.

This family was getting ready to see their oldest daughter graduate from high school and move away. They decided to combine a family session with her senior portraits. It was such a beautiful night at the beach. They are beautiful, and I know they will forever have these images of them as they were right before everything changed.

Taylor Fanto

Taylor Fanto has a new album out. Her voice is so unique, and so beautiful. She's been hard at work writing songs and creating. Go check out her album on iTunes!

We had a great time photographing her new album cover.  It's hard to go wrong with Taylor.

Sweet Sixteen

This redhead is my very own. Turning 16 is special, especially when she is your oldest. I promise it feels like she was just in diapers watching Dora the Explorer on my sofa, and now she's driving and getting ready for college. It happens in the blink of an eye I tell you.

Her cousin turned 16 only 18 days after she did. They are best friends, and I'm so grateful for that. They understand each other more than anyone else. They share a grandmother, and their parents are siblings. Who better to complain about your annoying parents than your cousin who just gets it.

I've been photographing them together since they first met at only a few days old. They have grown into pretty amazing people, if I say so myself. Life with them in it is just better.

Brilliant and Beautiful

"Enjoy every moment you spend with your children. I wish I had more time with my mom."

Geneva Grace tells me this as we are in our ordering session. I was stunned. This is not something I'm used to hearing from such a young person. She then goes on to tell me she lost her mother at a young age, and she misses her everyday.

My own mother is struggling through chemo for the second time. She's in the middle of it, and it's brutal. It hurts me so much to see her in so much pain and agony. I wish everyday I could make it all better, or just for one day take away the sickness. It is so much harder than I ever thought it was for people who had cancer. I can't imagine going through this as a teenager like Geneva. I can't imagine saying goodbye to my mom before I got married or had my own children.

You can see Geneva is gorgeous, but she's also incredibly talented. She's an up and coming country singer who performs around the Conejo Valley area. I'm excited to see where her career takes her. I'll be keeping my eye on you Geneva, and I know your mother will be too. I know she wishes she could be at your side right now, and that she's incredibly proud of you.

Taylor Fanto

I was honored to photograph Taylor Fanto for her newest single. Have you heard it? If not you really should look her up on iTunes and Spotify. Her new song is "Beautiful Tonight." Not only is her voice simply gorgeous, especially considering she's only 15, but she also writes her own songs. I'm so excited to see exciting things happen for her.

Senior Year

Senior year of high school is a time unlike any other. Everything is ending and beginning at the same time. There is so much pressure to make the right decisions because your whole life depends on it. Nobody tells you it's OK if things don't turn out just how you planned. Sometimes the best things in life are the ones that happen beyond our control.

These two didn't have to worry about not getting into the university of their choice. They are now at Stanford and Emory, hopefully having the time of their life. They worked hard and deserve everything they earned. This session was just a bit of fun. I hope these images bring back fantastic memories for them whenever they look back on their senior year.
